“Artocracy seeks to support and empower artists by generating sales and exposure for their work. Providing a venue to display and purchase art outside the traditional gallery setting, enables access to affordable, high quality art to a larger audience of art lovers.” In January 2005, Megan Murphy, a painter, founded Artocracy with the vision of making art available to every art lover, even those with limited budgets. As an artist, she knew firsthand the struggle of balancing the time needed to create balanced with the need to make money to survive. But she also realized that the digital medium provided an inexpensive way to produce high-quality, original art. Megan founded Artocracy to provide artists with a method to submit and show digital artwork so they would have both the time and money needed to create more works of art. However, the benefits of distributing artwork through Artocracy eclipse solely the needs of artists. Artocracy allows wider audience of confirmed art lovers and potential ones to purchase and print the art at prices achievable by almost everyone. |
