Growing up in Nebraska, I learned to create my own enjoyment by exploring the vast and wide open spaces that surrounded me. That experience as a child has affected my artistic sense. Much of my work involves hitting the road with no plan of action, traveling off of the beaten path and seeing what there is to see. The thrill of exploring rarely goes unrewarded as I find situations and images that I had not expected to experience. For my travels, I abide by three philosophies: 1. The closer you get to “middle of nowhere” the better. 2. All roads and paths lead to something, no matter how overgrown. 3. Get out of the car and walk. When I follow these three rules, I feel I can stop just about anywhere and find something fascinating to photograph. |
