Mary McGrath

Throughout my life, I’ve always been drawn to expressing myself artistically. Over the years, my interests have narrowed down to photography writing and music. In general, I like to take mundane objects and render them in an abstract fashion. I prefer to work in black and white, although I’ve been enjoying dabbling in color, and doing some minor manipulation of my images on the computer. I am drawn to many photographers who dabble in the abstract. Some of these include:

Brett Weston
Alfred Stieglitz
Lewis Hine
William Garnett
Andreas Feininger
Dorothea Lange
Paul Strand
Man Ray
Michael Kenna
Florence Henri
Robert Mapplethorpe

I studied photography briefly while attending UCSB, but I’m largely self-taught. My work has appeared in a variety of publications and web sites. Some of these include:

Petersen\'s Photographic Magazine
TakeGreatPictures.com
American Photo Mentor Series
Photographer\'s Forum Best of Photography 2001
Copley Newspapers
Betterphoto.com
Photoalley.com
